As September approaches, we are in the final stretch of summer. Before autumn officially begins on September 22, there’s still time to enjoy the last of the season’s warmth in the capital. Expect a vibrant mix of art, photography, music, sporting events, fresh literary releases, and inspiring discussions on sustainability. On top of all this, September offers plenty of parties and festivals. Check out the exciting events lined up for the month below.
1. Cheer on the Berlin Marathon or Join the Run
Running a marathon is a lifetime goal for many, and this could be your year if you start training in time! If not, you can still be a part of the action by cheering on participants. Runners will pass iconic sights like the Victory Column, Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church along their 40-kilometer journey.

2. Explore Cutting-Edge Tech at IFA Berlin
At IFA Berlin, discover the latest trends and innovations across technology. Celebrate with live music from acts like Bryan Adams and Faithless in the summer garden of Messe Berlin.

3. Dive into the Art World: Berlin Art Week & Positions Art Fair
During Berlin Art Week, over 100 cultural venues open their doors with exhibitions, performances, and private collections. The POSITIONS Art Fair will take place in the spacious hangars of Tempelhof Airport, showcasing artists from 100 international galleries. Expect award ceremonies and an opening party as part of the program.

4. Get Lost in Literature at the International Literature Festival
For 10 days, Berlin transforms into a literary hub with readings, author meet-and-greets, discussions, and exhibitions covering everything from children’s literature to political discourse. With a diverse program, it’s no surprise that this festival is among the world’s leading literary events.

5. Witness the Magic of the Festival of Giant Dragons
On Tempelhofer Feld, the Festival of Giant Dragons will amaze with kites up to 50 meters long, offering a magical spectacle as autumn sets in. Bring your own kite to join in the fun, and enjoy a stage show along with family-friendly entertainment. Admission is free!

6. Experience the Vibrancy of Lollapalooza Berlin
Wear your most colorful outfit and immerse yourself in Lollapalooza Berlin, a music festival that draws 100,000 visitors annually. Beyond the music, explore “Green Neighbourhood” for sustainability topics, be entertained by acrobats at “Lolla Fun Fair,” and discover unique fashion in “Fashionpalooza.” Families can enjoy “Kidzpalooza,” a dedicated area for children.

7. Celebrate Jewish Culture at the 37th Jewish Culture Days
Jewish Culture Days offers a rich blend of art, music, films, comedy, and food. This year’s theme, “Light,” features events across the city, including a literature tent on Bebelplatz, screenings in cinemas, and concerts in synagogues and clubs. A highlight is the unveiling of a new Torah scroll.

8. Feel the Spirit of Sport at ISTAF & Laver Cup
The ISTAF at the Berlin Olympic Stadium is a must for athletics fans, showcasing world-class athletes in events like long jump, javelin throw, and sprint races. Meanwhile, the Laver Cup brings an exciting tennis showdown, where Europe’s top six men’s players face off against their global counterparts, led by captains Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.

11. Monet and the Impressionist City at the Alte Nationalgalerie
